State Sen. Fran Millar of Dunwoody has received the Georgia Apartment Association (GAA’s) 2017 Friend of Housing Award. The presentation was made Nov. 16 during the GAA’s annual awards banquet, which was attended by more than 1,000 industry professionals.
“Sen. Millar is a true asset to the citizens of Georgia,” said Chris Burns, chairman of the Georgia Apartment Association. “His commitment to education, economic growth and understanding of the importance of diversified housing made his selection for this year’s award easy.”
The Friend of Housing Award is the only award GAA bestows on someone outside of the multifamily industry. Since 1995, GAA has annually recognized a person whose efforts and actions have contributed to the positive business climate enjoyed in both Georgia and the United States.
Millar was elected to the State Senate for Georgia’s 40th District in 2010 and represents portions of DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. He serves as chair of the Higher Education Committee and as Secretary of the Health and Human Services and Rules committees. Millar is also a member of the Education and Youth Committee. Additionally, he served on the Governor’s Education Reform Commission and the Governor’s Child Welfare Reform Commission. He also serves as the elected Vice Chairman of the Legislative Advisory Board of the Southern Regional Education Board and the Board for Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.
