ATLANTA—Georgia State Rep. Billy Mitchell commended Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Tau Pi Omega Chapter on 30 years of dedicated service to the DeKalb County community and presented the Most Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award to Tau Pi Omega’s president Portia Brantley.
The award serves as the highest honor given on the state level to any citizen and affords the recipient every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from the state of Georgia in travels to other states and nations beyond the United States, Mitchell stated.
In February, the group provided boxes of food to those in need for its Childhood Hunger Initiative. The chapter spent the 2023 MLK national holiday volunteering on various community service projects.
