LAWRENCEVILLE – An Auburn man was sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a woman after forcing his way into her home, beating her, and holding her against her will, the Gwinnett County District Attorney announced on today, May 15.
Christopher Raymond Clamp, 53, was found guilty of aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, first-degree burglary, aggravated stalking, felony battery-family violence, misdemeanor terroristic threats, and misdemeanor hindering an emergency telephone call. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 90 years to serve consecutively, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said.
“We hope this verdict and sentence helps this victim recover from the trauma the defendant inflicted on her,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “Her bravery to face him in court is an important part of her healing journey.”
The case stems from a wellness check on Jan. 16, 2022. Gwinnett County police found the victim in a state of panic and suffering from several injuries, according to the investigation. The woman told police that over the course of two days, Clamp hit, choked, and sexually assaulted her after breaking into her home. She also stated that he had previously threatened her through emails and prevented her from calling 9-1-1 for help after forcing his way into her home.
During trial, in addition to the compelling testimony of the victim, prosecutors showed jurors the threatening emails, and photos of the injuries the victim sustained, the District Attorney’s Office stated. The jury deliberated for 35 minutes before returning the guilty verdicts.
Managing Assistant District Attorney Han Chung and Managing Assistant District Attorney Angela Mattozzi prosecuted the case with assistance from Special Victims Unit Investigator Joseph Boyd and Victim Witness Advocates Shenita Coward and Rocio Pineda. The Gwinnett County Police Department’s investigation helped to close this case.
