LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A Gwinnett County cheerleading coach pled guilty to sexual abuse of a teen cheerleader at his Snellville home. Charles Archibald Moore III, 33, was sentenced to 25 years with the first 12 years to be served in prison after pleading guilty to charges of sexual exploitation of children, invasion of privacy, grooming of a minor, and electronically furnishing obscene material to minors.
“This defendant violated the trust he was given as a youth leader,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said.
“This is despicable behavior. We pray that the victim and her family can recover and move forward.”
Moore coached cheerleading at STAR Athletics Cheers and Tumbling in Barrow County, Atlanta Jayhawks in Gwinnett County, and Walnut Grove High School in Walton County.
During the guilty plea hearing, the teen victim testified that Moore was her cheerleading coach and started sending her messages on social media when she was 16 years old. He asked her for photos of her body in exchange for money, vapes and THC cartridges.
The teen told the judge Moore also then had sex with her inside his home, as well as in the parking lot of the Barrow County cheerleading gym.
Police in Walton County began investigating the case in 2024 after the teen disclosed the sexual abuse.
Charges remain pending against Moore for the acts that occurred in Barrow and Walton Counties.
The case was prosecuted by the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit.
