GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Gwinnett County will recognize those who served in the military during its annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Due to forecasted rain, the ceremony will be held indoors in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
The ceremony will be held in person with an option for residents to tune in live via the County’s Facebook page @GwinnettGov.
The ceremony will begin with a Veterans March. All veterans who served honorably are encouraged to participate and be honored for their service and sacrifice.
Veda Brooks, Women and Minority Veterans Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Veteran Services and Army veteran, will give this year’s keynote address.
Brooks is a dedicated military professional with over a decade of experience in the United States Army and Army National Guard. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in leading a trauma team during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm deployment, where she was instrumental in coordinating medical outreach services and ensuring critical medical support for deployed personnel. As a Medical Intelligence Specialist and Medical Specialist, Brooks trained medical hazardous teams, supervised field medical services and administered emergency and routine medical treatment, including performing triage for casualties. Her responsibilities also extended to supervising activities in dispensaries, guiding personnel staff and ensuring the smooth operation of medical treatment facilities.
Brooks has held various roles with the Georgia Department of Veteran Services such as Director of the Women’s Veteran Office, Appeals Officer and Veteran Services Officer. She has earned numerous awards for service to veterans such as the recipient of the Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust in 2019, the 2018 DAV 9th District National Committee Award and the 2016 Citizen’s Award for exceptional service to a veteran in need from then Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
Gwinnett County hosts its Veterans Day Ceremony each November to pay tribute to those in the military during wartime or peacetime. Gwinnett residents who have served in any branch of the armed forces and their families are invited to participate.
All residents are encouraged to attend to show appreciation to those who helped protect and defend the country.
