GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – Members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. —Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter, alongside its Zeta Youth affiliates, recently spent a transformative weekend in support of breast cancer warriors and survivors.
The weekend began on Oct. 19 at 7:30 a.m., as the chapter joined the Paint Gwinnett Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer and Survivor Celebration. Sorority members and youth affiliates energized participants, cheering them on at both the start and finish lines of the race.
The following day, on Oct. 20, at 4 p.m., the chapter hosted a breast cancer awareness seminar, led by Kimberly Middleton, a chapter member and lead mammography technologist at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital. Middleton addressed a crowd of over 50 attendees, highlighting the importance of routine mammograms and answering questions from the audience, emphasizing the role of early detection.
The advocacy weekend concluded on Monday, Oct. 21, at 8:30 a.m., when members delivered 25 “Inspiring Hope” fruit and vegetable gift baskets to cancer patients at Georgia Cancer Specialists – Gwinnett, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative, led by Sandra Bates, chapter coordinator, and Claudia Warren-Wheat, a licensed social worker, aimed to combat the nutritional challenges often faced by those undergoing chemotherapy.
Johanna Edwards, office manager at Georgia Cancer Specialists, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the staff, who were touched by the chapter’s generosity and dedication to patient well-being.
