GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– A 23-year-old man was arrested minutes after committing a $5,000 theft involving the sale of a vehicle, Gwinnett County Police said.
The suspect, Kobe Isaia Romain-Grant, of Suwanee, was charged with felony theft by taking after analysts from the Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center used FLOCK and DOT cameras to track him as he fled the scene.
The Jan. 6 incident began at 1625 Pleasant Hill Road in unincorporated Duluth. The victim told police that he was attempting to purchase a white Dodge Charger from a male he met on Facebook Marketplace. The suspect took $5,000 from the victim during the transaction and sped away in the vehicle.
A K9 officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle approximately 30 minutes later in the area of Old Norcross Road and Herrington Road and conducted a traffic stop.
Romain-Grant was apprehended without incident. Officers recovered the $5,000 he stole from the victim. Romain-Grant was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is reminding the public about designated e-commerce spaces available at the Police Department.
“We encourage the public to utilize these dedicated parking spaces for those who wish to buy, sell, and trade goods,” the Police Department said.
The parking spots are marked with a sign and monitored with video surveillance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
