PHILADELPHIA, PA–Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to meet tonight (Sept. 10) for their first and perhaps only debate before the Nov. 5 presidential election. The showdown for the high-stakes debate will take place at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia and will be televised at 9 p.m. ET by numerous networks.
Hosted by ABC News, the debate comes as polls show Harris and Trump are in a dead heat. Harris leads Trump by just 1 point—49 percent to 48 percent—among registered voters, according to the latest PBS News/NPR/ Marist poll.
Analysts say tonight’s showdown will be a pivotal point for the candidates in battleground states, which include Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania, where the two split a likely share of voters nearly evenly. Across each of the battleground states, an average of 15% of likely voters say they have not yet firmly decided their choice, CNN has reported.
ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate the 90-minute primetime debate. Muir, 50, is anchor and managing editor for ABC World News Tonight. He has been with ABC since 2003. Muir moderated presidential primary debates for ABC in 2016 and 2020. Davis, 46, is anchor for ABC News Live Prime. Having been with ABC since 2007, Davis moderated presidential primary debates in 2019 and 2020.
Harris and Trump will square off in a room where they will stand just 6 feet apart. Their microphones will only be turned on when it is their turn to speak. Each candidate will have 2 minutes to answer each question. There will be no live studio audience.
