Officials announce Sept. 29 Move Day schedule, release video showcasing new facility
ATLANTA – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will undertake a significant logistical feat on Sunday, Sept. 29 – moving all patients from Egleston Hospital to the new Arthur M. Blank Hospital, located in Brookhaven, in a single day. In total, Children’s anticipates moving 340 patients beginning at 7 a.m., using 56 ambulances from community groups as well as Children’s ground and air transport.
As Children’s prepares for this historic move, officials are asking for the public’s help by yielding to ambulances along the move route from Egleston Hospital to Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Move Day. City of Atlanta, Emory University Police, DeKalb County, City of Chamblee, City of Brookhaven, Sandy Springs Police and Georgia State Police will work collaboratively to ensure patients travel safely during the move.
The route includes Uppergate Drive to Starvine to Clairmont Road to 1-85 Frontage Road. Approximately 30 patients from the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Scottish Rite Hospital will move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital. They will travel from Meridian Mark to Johnson Ferry Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road to GA-400 to I-85N to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.
Clinical teams have been preparing for Move Day for over the past two years by conducting multiple simulations and dress rehearsals. During the rehearsals, 1,200 participants from teams including clinical ambassadors, department leaders, hospital planning, Information Systems and Technology, facilities services and more, have tested various scenarios and refined workflows for Move Day. Child life specialists, hospital chaplains and interpretive services, along with an approximate 1,000 support staff volunteers, will be on-site at the hospitals to assist with patient family needs.
Here’s a look at the highlights for the hospital’s Move Day, Sept. 29:
- At 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital will open, and the Egleston Emergency Department will close.
- Anyone seeking pediatric emergency services on or after Sept. 29, 2024, Must Not go to Egleston Emergency Department as it will be closed.
- Beginning at 7:30 a.m., all patients at Egleston Hospital will be transported via ambulance to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.
- A Move Day schedule has been developed down to the minute to help support the safe transfer of patients to Arthur M. Blank Hospital. Children’s expects to move around 340 patients in 56 ambulances plus nine Children’s transport vehicles to Arthur M. Blank Hospital, anticipating Move Day will last more than 12 hours.
- The public can help by yielding to ambulances along the move route from Egleston Hospital to Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Move Day. The route includes Uppergate Drive to Starvine to Clairmont Rd to 1-85 Frontage Road.
- Child life specialists, hospital chaplains and interpretive services, along with an approximate 1,000 support staff volunteers, will be on-site at the hospitals to assist with patient family needs.
Children’s also has produced a drone fly-through video to showcase the new facility, which is located at the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Interstate 85 in Brookhaven. Filmed using a first-person view (FPV) drone, the skilled team at Epic Drone Tours navigated the drone through the new Emergency Department, Eatery, garden area, lobby, an operating room, a patient room and much more.
