STONECREST, GA—Family, friends and congregation members this weekend will celebrate the life of Pastor Charles W. Bennafield, who served as leader of the historic Flat Rock Community Church for the past four years.
Pastor Bennafield passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7. He was 58.
“There are no words to express the sadness that we are experiencing at this time. Charles was deeply loved by so many people,” his wife, Pam, wrote in a Facebook post. “…It is not easy to say goodbye, but together we will learn how to live with this and celebrate his amazing life.”
Stonecrest City Councilmembers remembered Pastor Bennafield, sharing information with the public about his funeral at the conclusion of the council’s special called work session on Nov. 10.
In addition to his wife, Pastor Bennafield is survived by their daughter, Mia; and their son, Charles, Jr. “CJ.”
A wake will be held on Nov. 12, noon to 8 p.m., at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home’s South DeKalb Chapel, 4347 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur. Due to the COVID-19, a mask is required to enter the chapel.
A Homegoing Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 11 a.m., at Flat Rock Community Church, 4542 Evans Mill Rd, Stonecrest. The service also will be streamed on FaceBook Live
Pastor Bennafield will be laid to rest at Kennedy Memorial Gardens.
