STONE MOUNTAIN, GA—Chris Moten’s revolutionary new sound, Trap Jazz, is coming to Stone Mountain. Trap Jazz will take center stage on Friday, Aug. 9, 7 p.m., at Voices of Faith Church’s 30th Anniversary Celebration featuring an evening of dinner and jazz.
Led by Moten, Trap Jazz recently performed at the Atlanta High Museum to a packed-out crowd. The performance follows a growing number of major events for the up-and-coming Atlanta artists since a Hulu documentary premiered on Aug. 23, 2023 celebrating Trap Jazz as the new sound for this generation—a fusion of jazz, classical, and hip hop.
Moten, who turned 38 on July 29 and is known as mrtrapjazz with 49.5K Instagram followers, said creating the transformative sound was an ideal way to boost the evolution of jazz to a wider audience, including young people.
“I call it structured chaos. We’re just trying to find a way to make jazz exciting,” said Moten, who plays keyboard and has made several appearances on radio talk shows with Trapjazz artists Stixx Taylor and Cassius Jay.
Moten said Trap Jazz is looking forward to providing an enjoyable experience to all those who come out for the evening of dinner and jazz at Voices of Faith. He said the performance may be a first for many fellow members who only know him as the band leader who plays keyboard at Voices of Faith on Sundays.
“I’m a church musician by heart. I was born and raised in the church,” said the multi-talented Moten, who, as a drummer, played quads at Columbia High School in Decatur, GA. “I’m so excited about Voices of Faith’s celebration. Anyone who doesn’t know what Trap Jazz is about should definitely come out for a great evening.”
