ATLANTA –Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will begin to shift traffic this week from the existing Flat Shoals Road Bridge onto a new section of the bridge at I-285 east, weather permitting.
“The upcoming traffic shifts are milestones for the bridge reconstruction project,” said District Metro Atlanta Engineer Kathy Zahul. “This just puts us one step closer to a successful completion of the project, we are thankful for the patience that the community has displayed during our progress with this project.”
The traffic shift is a part of the ongoing bridge project that will accommodate the volume of traffic traveling on Flat Shoals Road and I-285. It will provide two through lanes in each direction, bike lanes on both sides, and dual left-turn lanes from SR 155 onto I-285 as well as widen and extend ramps.
Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds while traveling through the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
