Dozens of youths are learning about the legal system today at the Third Annual Youth Law Camp in Rockdale County.
Chief Magistrate Judge Phinia Aten and the Newrock Legal Society presented the day-long camp, open to students in the 8th through 12 grades in Rockdale and Newton counties.
Students are participating in interactive civic activities such as mock trials and mock legislative sessions and are learning from an array of speakers including judges, lawyers, law enforcement officers and others. The free camp, founded by Judge Aten in 2016, is designed to educate, empower, engage and entertain students who are interested in learning about careers in the legal system.
“I wanted to offer our teens the opportunity to do something educationally enriching during their break and approach it as time to work toward their future life goals,” said Aten. “It’s never too early to experience a career break-through and network with professionals actively contributing to your chosen industry.”

This was an awesome opportunity and I’m so thankful for what you are doing in this community. My son Terrell Frank spoke highly of his experience and said “I can’t wait for next year “. Thank you again.
