New Birth’s food distribution goes on hiatus during the month of July
STONECREST, GA–New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s food pantry and DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond are partnering to provide corn, squash, zucchini, bell peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes and watermelons to families on Saturday, June 26 at 10 a.m. The upcoming free food distribution takes place on New Birth’s campus located at 6400 Woodrow Road in Stonecrest and marks the final food distribution before the church’s planned sabbatical throughout the month of July.
“Looking back over the last year of the pandemic, I think we can all agree that COVID-19 was beyond a health crisis, it was a financial one as well. While we are seeing some begin to rebound from the impacts, we realize that food insecurity is still a major issue for so many families,” said Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. “Since we first launched our food pantry months before the pandemic, we have fed nearly 1 million people thanks to partnership with DeKalb County, World Vision and other generous partners.”
DeKalb County, in partnership with South Georgia Farmers, will provide seven churches with 2,500 boxes of produce. New Birth, in addition to the food donation from DeKalb County, will also provide families with additional items including a family-sized protein, needed household supplies, and additional shelf-stable food items.
