Lance Hammonds, a chemical sales manager and community activist, has qualified for the DeKalb County School Board District 6.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the families of DeKalb County,” said Hammonds. “I am running because I believe the key to a prosperous community is academically superior schools with achievement outcomes that rival the top schools in the nation. I want to make DeKalb County Schools the destination of choice for young families looking for the best education for their children.”
Hammonds said he believes quality education requires a community commitment.
Hammonds is a SE Region Account Manager for NorFalco, Inc., with over 40 years of sales and account management experience. He has been active in the community for a number of years, having served as Vice President and Education Chair of the DeKalb NAACP; past board member of the Eastlake and South DeKalb YMCA’s; member of the Water’s Edge Homeowners Association, where he serves as Safety Committee Chair; member and past President of the DeKalb Graduate Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Hammonds is also an active member and Deacon of Voices of Faith Ministries, where he serves as the Youth Ushers Coordinator.
Hammonds led the drive to get Snapfinger Road designated as Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, where the annual MLK Day Parade is held. He has also coordinated back-to-school boot camps and parent rallies.
His latest project is leading the collaborative effort with community organizations and the school district to get Community School Volunteers for the underperforming schools in DeKalb County.
Hammonds is a 34 year resident of DeKalb County and is married to Freda Hammonds. They are the proud parents of four children and have seven grandchildren.
Hammonds is an active member and Deacon of Voices of Faith Ministries, where he serves as the Youth Ushers Coordinator.
