UPDATE: Celebration of Life Service, Omega Psi Phi, Inc. Memorial Service, Public visitation announced
DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Lawrence L. Nelson, Jr., founder of Lang Custom Homes, has passed away. He died on Saturday, July 20, at age 58.
Mr. Nelson, an African-American who earned a distinguished reputation in metro-Atlanta as a top builder for luxurious, impeccably-designed homes, was the exclusive builder of the Greenridge community in DeKalb County.
In addition to completing Greenridge in 2005, where several of DeKalb’s most prominent citizens built homes, Lang built luxury homes in Kanawha Lakes and Spencer’s Mountain subdivisions in Stone Mountain, GA. He went on to build luxury homes in Gwinnett County and the Estates at Nelson Pointe and Enclave at Nelson Pointe communities. He also established Lang Restoration & Construction. Mr. Nelson was recognized as an Elite Builder by the 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty Corporation.
“Lawrence championed excellence. He built my first dream home. He helped me to choose the perfect corner lot for what I wanted to achieve for me and my family,” said Glenn L. Morgan, Publisher of On Common Ground News. “Lawrence wasn’t just a builder. He became my friend and our families enjoyed celebrating together. My heart goes out to his wife, Vanessa, and their family. My wife, Valerie, and I are sending up prayers for them.”
The family’s sudden loss has been profound. Mr. Nelson died the day before the wedding of his youngest son, said his sister, Devita Maxwell.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Vanessa; sons, Lavondre’ Nelson and Lawrence “Trey” Nelson, III (wife Rebecca); his parents, Rosetta and Lawrence Nelson, Sr.; sisters, Arletha Harris(husband Tracy); and Devita Maxwell (husband Andre’); and one grandchild, Lorenzo Nelson, who was born to “Trey” and Rebecca in May 2024.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Nelson will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, 12 noon, at Greater Atlanta Christian School, 1575 Indian Trail Road N.W., Norcross. The Omega Psi Phi, Inc. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. A public visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, noon until 8 p.m. Family Hour from 7 – 8 p.m., at the Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home Gwinnett Chapel, 914 Scenic Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA.
