ATLANTA – MARTA, in partnership with Community Farmers Markets (CFM), will kick off the 2024 MARTA Market Food Pantry on Valentine’s Day The markets will begin on Wednesday, Feb.14, at H.E. Holmes Station; Thursday, Feb.15, at College Park and Kensington stations; and Friday, Feb.16, at Doraville and Five Points stations.
The food pantry events initially will be held Feb. 14 through April 26, 2 to 4 p.m., to distribute fresh produce, canned and dry goods and frozen food items hosted by CFM and partner organizations Urban Recipe, Second Helpings, and InTown Cares. Market visitors also will be invited to participate in the MARTA Market Test Kitchen by sampling and providing feedback on plant-based recipes.
During the remainder of the 2024 season, May -December, the MARTA Market will provide farm stands inside MARTA stations. The markets serve multiple areas with limited food access. Each stand operates one day per week, providing fresh produce to MARTA customers from Tuesday to Friday at a different station each day. The goal is simple: to help get healthy, fresh food into places where people already are.
The markets accept cash, credit and debit, as well as EBT/SNAP. SNAP is doubled at the market, meaning that $5 swiped is worth $10 to spend.
