DEKALB COUNTY, GA–A 16-0 run to start the second quarter keyed a 52-37 non-region boys’ high school basketball victory for the Miller Grove Wolverines over the Arabia Mountain Rams at Miller Grove on Tuesday night(Nov. 18).
Trailing 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Wolverines (2-0) as James Williams scored seven points and Teshawn Bogle scored six points to open a 15-point lead. Williams opened the scoring with a layup on an assist by Kai Harden following by a three-pointer from Carlin Cabbil and a steal and dunk by Bogle.
Williams three-pointer from the corner on a feed by Cabbil made it a 26-11 game with 1:56 to play in the first half. Rance MaKenzie scored on a drive to the basket to cut the lead to 26-13 at the half.
A one-for-two trip to the foul line y Williams following steal put the Wolverines up 31-15 with 5:55 to play in the third quarter. But the Rams (0-5) behind back-to-back three-pointers by MaKenzie and Kameron Lyles jump-started an Arabia Mountain rally to within six. Lyles’ three-pointer with 2:10 to play closed the gap to six (33-37).
Tommy Mattox IV hit three of four from the free-throw line in the final 1:50 of the quarter to make it 36-27 headed into the fourth quarter.
Two free throws by Jaylen Layman and another by Dillon Brown closed the Rams within six again at 36-30 just one minute into the fourth quarter.
Another dunk by Bogle on an assist from Dominian Bunch and a Bogle layup just seconds later gave the Wolverines a 12-point lead at 44-32 with 4:30 to play in the game.
Arabia Mountain got no closer than eight the rest of the way as Williams scored five point I the final 2:48 of the game to aid the Wolverines’ cause in the 52-37 win.
James Williams hit for a game-high 23 points to lead Miller Grove while Teshawn Bogle added 11 points and eight rebounds. Rance MaKenzie led Arabia Mountain with 17 points on the night.
