Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter, concluded its Saturday Tutorial program at DeKalb County’s Toney Elementary School with a fun day for students.
The Omegas grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for students and gave out goodies at the closing event on March 25. Students had a chance to play games and enjoy other activities. Teachers and bus drivers were given a stipend for their participation.
The primary purpose for the Omegas is to assist tutoring students to prepare for the Common Core Test given at the end of each year. The state standardize test measure English language arts and mathematics skills.
In addition to academic support, the Omegas introduced many of the students to the game of chess. Chess teaches the students to think before they make decisions in life.
In March, the fraternity took students on a field trip to the Georgia Aquarium and to The Varsity restaurant to enjoy the restaurant’s famous hotdogs, onion rings and fries.
The Omegas with kick off the annual tutorial program in November for the 2017-2018 school year. The students are tutored for thirteen Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
