DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Biffle Park’s playground is getting a major upgrade, thanks to a $50,000 grant from ParkPride, a nonprofit dedicated to improving parks in DeKalb County and Atlanta.
With this funding, Friends of Biffle Park will be able to supplement the new playground that DeKalb County is building.
The new enhancements will provide engaging and inclusive play structures for toddlers and elementary school-aged children, encouraging physical activity and imaginative play. Planned additions include a mini puppet theater, lemonade stand, and interactive panels featuring tic-tac-toe, movable gears and animal matching games.
In addition, the grant will fund shaded coverings for six new swings, one of which will be ADA-compliant to ensure accessibility for children of all abilities.
To improve safety and maintenance, the playground’s current mulch surface will be replaced with a rubber mat, offering a softer, more durable play area for families to enjoy.
The playground at Biffle Park is not just a spot for the 1,640 families in the Hidden Hills community; it’s a gathering place for neighboring communities and local childcare groups. Approximately 8,370 people live within a 20-minute walk from the park and 230,000 are within a 15-minute drive, the Friends group said.
