DEKALB COUNTY, GA–An interception with 14.5 seconds to play by the Pine Ridge Panthers defense sealed a 14-6 victory over the Stone Mill Stallions in the DeKalb County Elementary Girls’ Flag Football County Championship title game at Hallford Stadium on Saturday, May 24.
Pine Ridge jumped out to a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdowns in the first five minutes of the game along with two extra points in a rematch of the Area 2 title game the previous week.
Stone Mill closed the gap to 14-6 with a touchdown two minutes later but missed a try for a two-point add on to the score.
The teams went to the half with the 14-6 score in favor of the Panthers.
Defense took over the game in the second half as both teams forced a couple of turnovers on downs. The Stallions were driving at the one-minute warning when a Pine Ridge defender picked off a pass to seal the game.
SEMIFINALS
Pine Ridge 24, Ashford Park 14
The Pine Ridge Panthers advanced to the championship game with 24-14 semifinal win over the Ashford Park Eagles
Ashford Park, the Area 1 champion, got out to a 6-0 lead before Pine Ridge rallied with two touchdowns to take a 12-6 lead at the half. The Panthers went up 18-6 before Ashford Park pulled within 18-14 with a touchdown and two-point conversion.
Pine Ridge answered with another touchdown to close out the 24-14 victory.
Stone Mill 12, Flat Rock 0
The Stone Mill Stallions advanced to the championship game by knocking off the Area 3 champ Flat Rock Bucks 12-0 to advance to the championship game.
Stone Mill jumped out to a 12-0 lead at the half. Neither team scored in a defensive dominated second half as the Stallions held on for the shutout victory.
FIRST ROUND
Ashford Park 32, Chapel Hill 6
The Ashford Park Eagles opened the championship tournament with a 32-6 win over the Chapel Hill Panthers in a first round matchup against the Area 3 runners-up.
Ashford Park jumped out to a 20-0 lead at the half using a pick-six, a reverse run and a pass to score three times in opening half of the game.
Chapel Hill avoided the shutout with a touchdown in the second half only to have the Eagles score two more.
