Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families accepting nominations for 2024 scholarship, community service award

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA- The Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families is accepting applications for the annual John K. Morgan Community Service Scholarship and the F. William Hughey Community Service Award.

The John K. Morgan Scholarship will be awarded to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding community service in Rockdale County and plans to continue that level of commitment while pursuing post-secondary education. There is no age limitation for applicants. The scholarship will be awarded to assist with college-related expenses for students enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Applications must be received no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Scholarship money awarded since the scholarship’s inception in 2011 totals over $90,000 among recipients and finalists.

The scholarship award luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Rockdale County Public Schools Central Office Boardroom.

The F. William Hughey Community Service Award will also be awarded to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding, collaborative community service in the Rockdale community. A $500 cash donation will be made to a community organization that serves the Rockdale community as selected by the recipient of this award. Most recent recipients of the F. William Hughey Community Service Award include Tim Hogg, Allan Jones, Ruth Wilson, Jeff Beech and Doreen Williams. Nominations for the Hughey Community Service Award are also due by Jan. 31.

The Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families was established in August 1996 by a resolution from the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners. The Coalition has become a well-established and respected Rockdale entity, channeling millions of dollars for the benefit of families and children throughout the community.
