CONYERS, GA —Rockdale County Commissioner Doreen Williams has qualified and is officially entering the race for re-election to Post II Rockdale Board of Commissioners.
“I am honored to serve this community, and I’m running for re-election because the work we’ve begun is not finished,” said Williams. “From strengthening mental health services to ensuring local government is accessible and responsive, I’m committed to continuing to put people first and building on the progress we’ve made together.”
Williams is currently serving in her third term and remains focused on community wellbeing, innovative service delivery, and collaborative problem-solving as she seeks re-election.
Williams said reducing property taxes is an issue that needs collaborative solutions and she has consistently voted to keep or lower the millage rate. She said that economic development is a big driver of opportunities for homeowners and small businesses alike and she remains committed to continuing to work with the Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council (CREDC) in attracting and keeping businesses that benefit Rockdale overall.
“This helps to spread the tax burden more equally between large businesses and homeowners,” Williams stated.
Williams said she will continue to address ongoing complex issues through research, collaboration and creativity. Among many issues is a need for a diverse stock of housing, including missing middle housing and transitional housing.
“We must be able to provide for all seniors including those who wish to age in their current home or provide quality of life options for those who no longer wish to live alone. Additionally, we must maintain and improve community infrastructure such as assuring adequate water, sewer, power, and safe roads,” Williams said.
Williams points to several accomplished objectives during her tenure, including:
- Through collaboration with local judges, law enforcement, and community partners, Commissioner Williams spearheaded the Stepping Up Initiative, a program aimed at reducing the number of non-violent individuals experiencing mental illness in jail and connecting them with supportive services instead of incarceration.
- Advocated for programs and policies that support senior citizens, such as the Memory Café and Arts Through the Ages.
- Served in leadership roles at the local, state, and national level to ensure Rockdale is taking advantage of best practices.
“Rockdale County is a vibrant and diverse community,” Williams said. “I will continue to listen, work collaboratively with residents and stakeholders, and lead with integrity — always with the goal of improving the daily lives of our families, neighbors, and small businesses.”
Williams said her campaign will focus on continuing to strengthen mental health support, promote responsible growth, and ensure that county government remains accessible and responsive.
A lifelong learner and former educator, Williams holds a doctorate from Georgia Southern University, a master’s from Walden University, and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.
Williams will be holding Listening Sessions on Wednesdays beginning March 11, through April 29, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Panera Bread, 1655 GA-138 in Conyers.
