Rockdale County Government is preparing to reopen the Rockdale Tennis Center, 1370 Parker Road, Conyers, and its tennis courts at Richardson, Johnson and Wheeler parks.
Members can begin using the tennis courts beginning June 8. League play will begin on June 18.
The Rockdale Tennis Center has been awarded a $5,000 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Facility Recovery Grant Award to defray some of the expenses related to reopening, the county said.
Signage with new safety guidelines mandated by state health officials will be posted as well as the hours of operation.
“Receiving the USTA award will allow us to open the Rockdale Tennis Center with safety measures in place as a result of COVID-19,” said Rockdale County Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr. “Opening up the county’s tennis courts with new guidelines will provide a safe environment for residents and staff.”
Rockdale’s tennis facilities were closed on March 16 to comply with state health officials’ orders to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Only the restrooms will be open at the Rockdale Tennis Center until further notice. The hours of operation for the tennis courts are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Chairman Nesbitt said the county is grateful for the USTA grant the county received to assist in reopening its tennis courts.
“Exercising and outdoor recreational activities provide mental and physical benefits for residents,” said Nesbitt. “We are grateful for our partner USTA for the assistance in reopening the tennis courts.”
The county’s walking trails were reopened two weeks ago. The other parks and recreation facilities, playgrounds and pavilions will remain closed until further notice.
