Rockdale County seeks residents’ feedback on Milstead Village revitalization plan

The Rockdale County Planning and Development Department is seeking feedback from county residents on its Milstead Village Revitalization Plan, which will be presented at two meetings.

Public hearings will be held on Aug. 13, 7 p.m., and Aug. 25, 9 a.m. Both meetings will be held in the Rockdale County Auditorium, 903 Main Street, Conyers.

Residents also will be able to view the meetings virtually and make comments online if time permits at facebook.com/rockdalegov.

The study for the Milstead Revitalization Plan was funded with a grant in partnership with the Georgia Conservancy. The Atlanta Regional Commission(ARC)  provided the grant in 2018 through its Community Development Assistance Program(CDAP). The ARC developed the CDAP to provide direct technical assistance to local governments in a wide variety of issue areas.

“Its success is in large part due to the collaborative nature of the program, that brings together several organizations to provide assistance under one umbrella program” said Sam Shenbaga, manager of ARC’s Community Development Group. “The Milstead project is an example of CDAP connecting a metro Atlanta community to the best technical resource available in the region, in a timely and efficient manner.”

The grant provided a neighborhood revitalization study and evaluation of Milstead Village as historic Callaway Mill Village. It also presented the opportunity to evaluate the area for available historic preservation availability, neighborhood continuity, and commercial development to address the needs of the population of Milstead Village.

Through rigorous field assessment, public meetings, residential input and stakeholder participation, the Milstead Neighborhood Revitalization Plan has been created for public review. The document can be accessed at: https://rockdalecountyga.gov/planning-and-development-projects/.

To access the plan, visit rockdalecountyga.gov and select Planning and Development from the County Departments menu. Once on the Planning and Development page, go to the second paragraph, “Special Projects,” access the page by clicking “here” link. Comments can be submitted on the Special Projects page, by scrolling to the bottom of the page and entering your information.

During public comment, speakers physically attending in the auditorium will speak first and ZOOM speakers will speak second, if there is remaining time.
