ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA–Over 75 citizens recently attended the Rockdale Soil Water Conservation District’s RSWCD) inaugural ice cream social at the University of Georgia’s Extension Office, 1127West Ave., Conyers .
Several Agribusiness professionals, advocates supporting efforts to protect natural resources and elected officials participated in the event, providing information to attendees. Guest speaker, Mike Worley, director of the Georgia Wildlife Federation, provided a presentation on the importance of Georgia’s Ecosystem.
George Kelcheck, who chairs the RSWCD, expressed his enthusiasm for the positive community response to the event, which was attended by adults and children. Kelecheck said he plans to continue to shine the spotlight on environmental efforts—particularly soil and water– and push for students and others to seek some 300+ careers in Agribusiness, a $91.3 billion industry in Georgia.
RSWCD is providing funding for four rising 10th, 11th and 12thgrade Rockdale County students to attend a weeklong agri-business and natural resources program hosted at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia, from June 8–13.
At the ice cream social, 4H members helped scoop up ice cream for attendees to enjoy. . The ice cream was donated by Cream Berry’s and cookies were donated by Brown Sugar Desserts, both located in downtown Conyers.
Smokey Bear visited with the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) letting folks know “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires.”
