ATLANTA—Georgia Sen. Emanuel Jones (D – Decatur) has been appointed to serve as a member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC) by Lt. Gov. Burt Jones.
“Thank you to Lt. Governor Burt Jones for giving me the opportunity to serve as a member of MARTOC,” said Sen. Jones. “I look forward to being able to serve the Metro Atlanta area in this new capacity. My fellow committee members and I will work to provide thoughtful insight on how we can better our trains, buses and other public systems. The Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is vital to not only Georgians, but anyone who visits our great city. We must continue to evaluate MARTA to make it sure it is suiting the needs of all who come to live, work, and visit our capital.”
MARTOC is comprised of members from the Georgia Senate and the Georgia House and will serve two-year terms concurrent with their terms in the Georgia General Assembly. The role of MARTOC is to evaluate the performance of public transportation in areas such as public safety, expenditure of public funds, responsiveness to community needs, economic vitality of the transportation system, efficient operation and impact on the environment.
Sen. Emanuel Jones represents the 10th Senate District, which includes portions of DeKalb and Henry County.
