DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Sen. Raphael Warnock has successfully secured a $40 million authorization for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects in DeKalb County.
“Georgians across the state rely on safe, clean, and reliable water for drinking, maintaining homes and businesses, and more,” Warnock said. “But this is the type of work that goes largely unrecognized until disaster strikes, highlighting why it is so important to secure investments today that will protect Georgia’s water infrastructure tomorrow.”
The authorization was included in the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 passed by the U.S. Senate with a vote of 97-1 on Dec. 18.
The provision in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024, which was also pushed for by Sen. Jon Ossoff, authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide up to $40 million in planning, design, and construction assistance for water infrastructure projects in DeKalb County.
“We are grateful for the continued support of Sens. Warnock and Ossoff,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “This critical funding will allow DeKalb County to continue to repair, upgrade and modernize its water and sewer infrastructure.”
Sen. Warnock has been a vocal advocate for investments in Georgia’s infrastructure, including critical projects to improve water and wastewater systems and strengthen Georgia’s economically important deepwater ports to optimize their efficiency and improve operations.
As an authorization, projects must receive funding separately through a federal appropriations package.
