DECATUR, GA – The Decatur Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred today, Feb. 2, at the Decatur Library, the main branch of the DeKalb County Public The Decatur Library is located in downtown at 215 Sycamore St.
According to the police department, officers responded to the library at approximately 5:10 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Officers located an adult male inside the library suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual who was injured, his family, and all those affected, including our library employees and patrons who were present and are understandably shaken by this incident,” said Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, CEO of DeKalb County.
The Decatur Library will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Updates regarding reopening will be shared as additional information becomes available, the DeKalb CEO’s office said.
The Decatur Police Department is handling the investigation. The DeKalb County Public Library is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
“The safety and well-being of our staff and patrons is our top priority,” said Alison L. Weissinger, Director, DeKalb County Public Library. “We are taking the necessary steps to support our employees and to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place as the investigation continues.”
