Today is the last day for Tucker Middle School students in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club to raise the funds necessary to compete in finals this July in San Diego, California. They are $25 short of their $5,000 goal.
Just a few days after On Common Ground News’ coverage of the kids’ dilemma, they received several donations and a commitment to match their fundraising efforts if they raise $2,500 from Pastor Lee Jenkins and his wife, Martica of Eagles Nest Church in Roswell.
Christine Mayfield, teacher and student adviser for the student organization, said that due to the location of Nationals in San Diego, this is the most money the group has ever had to raise since she’s been at Tucker Middle School.
“Every year is a challenge, but we never think we’re not going to nationals. We believed with everything within us that we would raise the money,” said Mayfield.
If you would like to donate, please visit the students’ GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/263p5us.
*Note* As this was being written, an anonymous donor pledged $400 that is not reflected in the total amount raised. The remaining balance is $25. Mrs. Mayfield stated that any extra money raised will go towards next year’s competition fees.
