City of Stonecrest to close administrative buildings, recreation center and parks

STONECREST, GA—Due to anticipated severe cold weather, the City of Stonecrest will close all of its administrative buildings—including City Hall, Browns Mill Recreation Center, and all City parks—on Friday, Jan. 10.

“Our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in Stonecrest during this extreme weather event. We understand the challenges that severe cold can bring, from frozen pipes to power outages, and we want our community to know that we are here to support you,” said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble.

Forecasts indicate that temperatures will drop into the low twenties, a winter storm watch has been issued, and a wind advisory due to strong gusts expected across the region.

“Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your homes. Check on your neighbors, especially seniors and those who may need assistance, and stay informed through city updates and reliable weather resources. Together, we can weather this storm safely,” said Mayor Cobble.

Rockdale County Public Schools announces independent learning

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Due to the high potential for inclement weather and hazardous road conditions Friday, Jan. 10, and into this weekend, Superintendent Terry Oatts has made the decision to make Friday an Independent Learning Day for students and a remote workday for staff. Buildings will be closed.

 A few things to note:

  •    School Nutrition is making a take-home meal for students to take home today Thursday to have for a Friday meal. Cafeteria managers and administrators are working together on the process for students to receive the meal prior to dismissal on Thursday.
  •    All Friday and weekend extracurricular or school activities will be canceled and/or rescheduled for a later date. We expect roads may be hazardous from refreezing Saturday and Sunday.
  •    No changes are being made to next week at this time.
