DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Thanks to tips from the public, authorities have arrested fugitive Marquel Heard, 33, in connection with the shooting death of a DeKalb woman who encountered suspects burglarizing her home. Authorities are now searching for two other suspects involved in the shooting.
Ana Scott, 36, was killed on Sept 20, 2025 when she rushed home after her doorbell camera alerted her that her home in the 3700 block of Citation Drive in DeKalb County was being burglarized. When she arrived, one of the suspects opened fire on her car. Scott died at a hospital later after being shot.
Heard was arrested in Birmingham, AL on Thursday, Jan. 15. He is facing charges of Murder and Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary, the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) said. Acting on public tips, DKPD, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals arrested Heard.
DKPD released video surveillance images of the other two suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting.
“These pictures show the suspects from surveillance video as well as from a nearby business.
These are the clearest pictures we have been able to provide during this investigation. It is our hope someone recognizes one or both suspects and reaches out to investigators,” DKPD stated in a news release.
Anyone with information is urged to call DKPD’s Homicide Assault Unit at (770) 724-7850. Anonymous tip also can be submitted through the (Tip411) app or by texting “DKPD” to 847411, followed by the tip.
