ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA–The installation ceremony for 11 public officials will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m., at the Rockdale County Auditorium, 903 Main Street, Conyers.
This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in Rockdale County’s history as Chairwoman-Elect JaNice VanNess and Post 1 Commissioner-Elect Tuwanya Smith join sitting Post 2 Commissioner Doreen Williams to form the first all-female Board of Commissioners.
The ceremony will recognize three officials taking on new roles – Chairwoman of the Board of Commissioners, Post 1 County Commissioner, and Superior Court Judge – six re-elected officials, and two newly-appointed judges. Over the past several months, outgoing and incoming leaders have worked collaboratively to ensure a smooth and effective transition, underscoring their shared commitment to the community’s priorities and progress.
The oaths of office will be administered by retiring Chief Superior Court Judge Robert Mumford, with the following public officials being honored:
The Honorable Phinia Aten – Magistrate Court Judge
The Honorable Vasco T. McRae – State Court Judge
The Honorable Gary Washington – Probate Court Judge
The Honorable Eric Levett – Sheriff
The Honorable George Levett – Coroner
The Honorable Maureen E. Wood – Superior Court Judge
The Honorable JaNice VanNess – Chairwoman of the Board of Commissioners
The Honorable Tuwanya Smith – County Commissioner, Post 1
The Honorable Tisa Smart-Washington – Tax Commissioner
The Honorable Janice Morris – Clerk of Superior and State Courts
The Honorable Tim McGuire – Juvenile Court Judge
Notably, Judge Tim McGuire was recently appointed as Juvenile Court Judge by Chief Judge Robert Mumford, succeeding Judge Maureen Wood, newly-elected Superior Court Judge.
