STONECREST, GA– A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder and burglary in connection with the Feb. 19 shooting death of Henry Ashley, 24, a security guard who was on duty at a car dealership located near The Mall at Stonecrest.
The arrest comes after DeKalb County Police received tips from the community, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The identity of the 16-year-old was withheld due to his age, authorities said.
“I want to thank the community for its assistance during this investigation,” said DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha Ramos. “This arrest is another example of what happens when the community and police work together.”
Investigators believe Mr. Ashley, who worked as a security guard at 8455 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest, encountered five suspects at approximately 11 p.m. as he investigated an alert about a suspicious person on the property.  Moments after the encounter, Mr. Ashley was shot while he was in his marked work vehicle. The five suspects, including the 16-year-old, fled the scene in a gray vehicle immediately after the shooting. In a surveillance video, the 16-year-old suspect is seen wearing a black hoodie with white writing.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrests of the four remaining suspects.
