GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– Gwinnett County Police investigators are seeking the public’s help in locating Charles Clay, 22, of Duluth. Clay is wanted in connection with multiple financial thefts and fraud charges totaling over $100,000.00.
A routine traffic stop lead to charges against Clay.
On June 29, a uniform division officer initiated a traffic stop after observing the driver using his cell phone while operating his vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, the officer observed the driver in possession of multiple credit cards with various names other than his own. Multiple deposit receipts and images of checks were also discovered.
Clay was arrested and interviewed by a fraud detective before being booked into the Gwinnett County Jail for the following charges:
- Driving without a valid license
- Failure to exercise due care (Georgia Hands-Free Law)
- Seat belt violation
- Financial Transaction card theft
After Clay bonded out of jail, the lead detective continued his investigation into the Financial Transaction Card Fraud by obtaining bank records and surveillance video.
Nine additional arrest warrants were secured for Charles Clay. They include:
- 3 Counts of Financial Transaction Card Fraud
- 3 Counts of Forgery 3rdDegree
- 3 Counts of Identity Fraud
