DECATUR, GA—In a two-day initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office partnered with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to execute Operation Safe DeKalb 2025.
The July 8-9 operation, which included about 125 officers from 15 law enforcement agencies, focused on serving outstanding warrants in high-crime areas in DeKalb.
Officers attempted arrests at 400 locations, resulting in 53 arrests, for felonies and misdemeanors. An additional 10 arrests were made for traffic violations and transported to the DeKalb County Jail without incident. Authorities also seized five firearms and recovered a stolen vehicle during the operation. Charges ranged from murder, robbery, aggravated assault and rape to probation violations, and family violence offenses.
“Criminal activity in DeKalb County continues to threaten the safety of our family and friends,” DeKalb County Sheriff Melody M. Maddox said. “Our dedicated and highly trained Field Operations deputies arrest suspected offenders daily. But for every arrest we make, new crimes are committed. Locating and apprehending suspects is dangerous and requires qualified personnel. It is through the concentrated collaboration with our valued DeKalb and metro area law enforcement partners that we can successfully expedite arrests get more suspects off the streets, helping to secure our residences and businesses.”
