CLARKSTON, GA—NBA legend Dominique Wilkins shared a motivational moment with youths attending the inaugural Rowsom Sports City of Clarkston Summer Basketball Camp. The four-day camp kicked off on Tuesday, July 18, at Clarkston First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
During the visit with the former Atlanta Hawks’ forward, Wilkins encouraged the kids, saying, “Just make sure that you have fun… Make sure you do the best that you can. Anything that you do, do it with a purpose.”
Clarkston City Manager Shawanna Qawiy said the city is thrilled over the opportunity the camp is providing for youths. In addition to meeting Wilkins, the youths are under the coaching tutelage of NBA’s Brian Rowsom, who played for the Indiana Pacers and the Charlotte Hornets.
“This camp supports the City’s commitment to community engagement and youth development, making a memorable impact on the lives of our young athletes,” Qawiy said.
The Rowsom Sports City of Clarkston Summer Basketball Camp is free for Clarkston youths in grades 4-12th. Non-residents may participate for a $10 fee and those ages 19 and up may participate for $35. The camp runs July 18-21, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and includes lunch. There may be spots that are still available. Call 404-292-5686 or 404-797-3954.
