Six graduate from inaugural Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Ambassadors Program

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Sheriff Eric J. Levett recently swore in six graduates of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Ambassadors Program, the first class since the program was announced in February 2023.

The Ambassadors Program grants passionate citizens the opportunity to serve the Rockdale County community by helping the volunteers to create a positive environment between citizens and law enforcement. In addition, the program will educate volunteers on some of the functions a Deputy Sheriff is required to handle.

There are three pillars of the Ambassadors Program:

1. Pillar ONE- Citizens Academy: This pillar is designed for dedicated civilians who see the benefits of understanding the day-to-day operations of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. The Citizen Academy includes ride-along(s), firearm safety, division tours, self-defense tactics training, etc.
2. Pillar TWO- Volunteers in Patrol: This pillar is designed to reduce crime by having citizens within the Ambassadors Program patrol their own neighborhoods and report any suspicious or criminal activity by calling 911.

III. Pillar THREE- Community Support: This pillar is designed to allow volunteers of the Ambassadors Program to assist the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office in answering non-confrontational/non-life- threatening calls for services. Calls for service include but are not limited to assist motorists (vehicle lockouts and traffic hazards), animal complaints, trees down, electrical wire, stray animals, dead animals, work traffic, flooding, etc.

“Many people like to just criticize law enforcement. Our deputies work hard to address everything that they can, but the reality of it is we cannot be everywhere,” said Sheriff Levett. “ I applaud these citizens for stepping up and being the change in the community. Not many agencies like the idea of citizen policing but we are for the community and with their help on the minor things, it will free up more deputies and add efficiency to the process so that we can investigate and address a lot more of the major things.”
