Lane Closure Advisory for the I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project

The project will reconstruct the interstate system-to-system ramps at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange and add a combination of collector-distributor, or connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.

When/Where:

Friday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Daily)

• Flagging operation on Hillandale Park Ct. to Fairington Rd.

Friday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 6, 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. (Nightly)

• Single right lane and right shoulder closure on I-285 northbound from Columbia Drive to I-20
• Single right lane and right shoulder closure I-285 southbound from I-20 to Columbia Drive

Georgia DOT awarded the contract to  East Interchange Builders in April 2022. Final design work began in July 2022 and the project office was opened in November 2022.

Construction began in May 2023 with clearing and grubbing being the bulk of the work motorists and residents will see in the coming months. Next to the roadways, geotechnical investigations are underway along with foundation work for the bridges that will be constructed or replaced within the project limits.

The project focuses on:

• • Reconstructing I-285/I-20 East Interchange ramps with more direct alignments and additional lanes where warranted
  • Constructing new connecting lanes, also known as collector-distributor lanes, along westbound I-20 and an additional lane in the eastbound I-20 connecting lane road between the I-285/I-20 East Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road
  • Adding auxiliary lanes along I-20 and I-285*
  • Replacing the Miller Road and Fairington Road bridges over I-20, and the I-20 bridge over Snapfinger Creek
  • Widening the I-285 northbound bridge over Snapfinger Road
  • Constructing new noise barriers where feasible and reasonable per the preliminary noise impact assessment
