DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Steve Bradshaw, former candidate for DeKalb County CEO and DeKalb County District 4 Commissioner, announced his endorsement today, May 23, for Larry Johnson in the Democratic primary runoff election for DeKalb County CEO.
Bradshaw is a former U.S. Army officer and veteran of the first Persian Gulf War. He was elected to the DeKalb County Commission in 2016 and his fellow commissioners chose him twice, unanimously, to serve as the board’s presiding officer.
Larry Johnson and Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the former Super District 7 Commissioner, are expected to square off for the DeKalb County CEO seat in the June 18 runoff. Unofficial results show that they emerged as the top two candidates in the three-way Democratic primary on May 21. Bradshaw finished third in the race. Since neither of the candidates received 50% plus one vote, a runoff must be held the top two candidates who received the most votes.
The DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections will certify the election results on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at noon. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be conducted at the board’s offices, located at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur.
In a news release issued by Johnson’s campaign, Bradshaw cited Johnson’s capabilities and compassion as two of the key reasons for his support.
“I have served as a colleague with Larry Johnson on the Board of Commissioners for over seven years. And I have seen his capabilities and his compassion up close; therefore, I am excited to endorse Larry Johnson to become the next CEO of DeKalb County,” said Bradshaw.
“Larry is a statesman who is well-prepared to represent DeKalb County at the local, state, national, and international levels. In this race, there is no need to choose between innovation and experience. Larry Johnson offers both, along with a track record of delivering results we can see for DeKalb County.”
Larry Johnson represented DeKalb County District 3 as commissioner for more than two decades. During that time, he served in multiple state and national leadership roles, including as President of the National Association of Counties (NACo), Vice Chair of NACo’s Health Steering Committee, and more.
“Steve has put his life on the line for this country,” said Johnson. “He’s helped build a successful business, and he gives back to the community in more ways than you could easily count. I’m honored by his endorsement.”
Bradshaw joins a formidable list of local, state and national leaders who have endorsed Larry Johnson.
Bradshaw said that he believes that Johnson’s deeply-rooted understanding of DeKalb’s needs and his decades-long commitment to improving lives are why he is the right person to navigate DeKalb County into a future where every resident can thrive.
“The DeKalb County government is a nearly $2 billion organization that employs 6,000 individuals. It will take a strong leader to succeed as CEO, and Larry Johnson is the only candidate in this runoff election who is qualified to lead us in building a more business-friendly, safer, and cleaner DeKalb,” said Bradshaw. “I encourage all the good people who supported my campaign in the primary and all DeKalb County voters to vote for Larry Johnson in the Democratic primary runoff on June 18th.”
