ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA – The Georgia Department of Education recently named Shoal Creek Elementary School, Edwards Middle School, and Gen. Ray Davis Middle School as Math Leader Schools for achievement and growth in mathematics.
Shoal Creek was recognized for 5th Grade Gateway Growth for its growth in the percentage of 5th-grade students scoring at the
Proficient or Above level in mathematics on the Georgia Milestones Assessment. Shoal Creekmore than doubled in growth from 11.4% in 2022-23 to 28% in 2023-24.
Both Edwards Middle and Davis Middle were recognized for High School Achievement, exceeding the criteria of 90% or more of their 8th-grade students who took high school-level algebra scoring in Proficient or Above on the Georgia Milestones End-of-Course Assessment.
Edwards Middle had 93.8% and Davis Middle MS had 97.2% of its 8th grade students who took the high school-level algebra End of Course Assessment achieve Proficient or Above.
“These schools exemplify our goal of continuous improvement for student learning, achievement, and growth,” said RCPS
Superintendent Terry Oatts. “I commend the hard work of the students, teachers, administrators and families to reach this high level of growth and achievement in mathematics.”
“Once again, I am proud of our students for demonstrating high growth and achievement, this time in mathematics,” said Rockdale County Board of Education Chairwoman Pam Brown. “I congratulate Shoal Creek for double-digit growth in one year and our amazing eighth-grade students who not only excelled in high school-level algebra but also earned high school credits while in middle school.”
A total of 624 schools across Georgia met the qualifications to be recognized as Math Leaders.
Throughout the fall, State Superintendent Richard Woods will visit schools identified as Math Leaders to recognize and congratulate them.
Math Leader qualifications are based on students achieving the Proficient Learner level or above on the Georgia Milestone mathematics assessments.
