STONECREST, GA—With their fists raised high, a crowd of black business owners and supporters on Friday joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s Senior Pastor Jamal Bryant for the launch of the Bullseye Black Market—a national movement to support black-owned businesses.
The event, held at New Birth’s Samson Fitness Center, marked a response to a 40-day boycott of retail giant Target, initiated by Bryant in March.
Joining Bryant for remarks at the event were Georgia Congressman hank Johnson, his wife, DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson, and Stonecrest Distr5 Councilwoman Tammy Grimes, each voicing their support for the launch.
“This is a revolutionary act,” Bryant told the crowd. “This weekend, we are going to show MAGA (Make America Great Again), we’re going to show White Supremacy, we’re going to show oligarchs what the Resurrection looks like. It was not just reserved for Jerusalem alone, but it resides in Stonecrest as well.”
The Bullseye Black Market pop-up runs through Sunday at the Samson Fitness Center, offering visitors the opportunity to support a range of black-owned businesses.
While many local businesses are participating in the weekend market, others have from outside of the state, event organizers said.
Bryant called for a national “fast” from Target in March after the company announced that it was rolling back support of Diversity Equity & Inclusion(DEI) initiatives, including a pledge to invest $2 billion into minority businesses by December 2025, following President Trump’s executive order to dismantle DEI support of federal programs.
Bryant said the black community spends $12 million a day with Target and the company should keep its promise to provide the support that it said it would.
Bryant said he plans to make an announcement on Sunday concerning negotiations with Target.
