DECATUR, GA – Following the successful submission and approval of the county’s 2026 tax digest by the Georgia Department of Revenue on Wednesday, July 29, the DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office will mail nearly 260,000 tax bills to property owners beginning Friday, Aug. 14. Bills for City of Atlanta properties in DeKalb will be mailed later.
“The preparation of the County’s annual tax digest is a collective effort. In conjunction with the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, CEO, Tax Assessor’s Office (Property Appraisal), GIS, Boards of Education, city governments, and county administration, my office works diligently to ensure taxes are calculated accurately. Now we can officially move forward with the responsibility of collecting county taxes for real and personal properties in DeKalb,” said Tax Commissioner Nicole M. Golden.
New this year, property owners are set to receive redesigned property tax bills with easy-to-understand details, and clear payment information and deadlines. Additionally, the office launched its new property tax payment website, which now provides taxpayers with convenient e-payment solutions, including improved property search and payment options.

“This year, we are pleased to provide DeKalb County taxpayers with a modern and intuitive payment experience, both online and in the office,” Golden said. “The new, user-friendly payment website features an improved property search function and convenient e-payment options such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, along with credit/debit cards and real-time validated e-checks.”

The tax commissioner’s office is responsible for billing, collecting and disbursing county taxes. Each tax bill indicates how tax funds are distributed within the county. Bills display the breakdown of collected taxes for the county, including the county’s general fund, fire and police services, along with cities and school board. Generally, the school board receives a majority percentage followed by the county and cities. This year, the office is set to collect approximately $2 billion in revenue.
Property tax bills are computed based on millage rates set by the governing authorities, the fair market values determined by the county’s property appraisal department, and the assessment valuation of 40%. The bills also reflect any credits (deductions) resulting from EHOST (Equalized Homestead Options Sales Tax), HTRG (Homeowner Tax Relief Grant), and basic, senior, or special homestead exemptions authorized by state and local law
Questions regarding property values should be directed to the county’s Property Appraisal Department at 404-371-0841. The deadline for appealing real property was July 13; personal property Aug. 3.
