Rockdale, GA – Chief State Court Judge V.T. McRae on Tuesday, Aug. 5, announced his intention to run for a full term in the 2026 election.
Gov. Brian Kemp appointed McRae in Nov. 2024 to fill the unexpired term of former Judge Clarence Cuthpert, Jr., who resigned to seek another office.
McRae stated that he is dedicated to ensuring justice, enhancing community service, and implementing innovative courtroom solutions for all.
“I have dedicated my life to service—as a soldier, an attorney, and now as your Chief Judge. I fought for justice on the battlefield, in the courtroom, and on the bench. As a devoted husband and father, my faith guides me in my commitment to justice and community,” said Judge McRae.
Judge McRae, a retired Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Officer Army and recipient of the Bronze Star, said he has extensive legal experience including serving as Magistrate Court Judge in Rockdale County, an assistant solicitor general in Gwinnett County and as a federal prosecutor. McRae said his diverse background in military, corporate, and community service provides a well-rounded perspective on justice.
As the Chief Judge, McRae champions “innovative and restorative justice,” asserting that justice should be fair, compassionate, and forward-thinking. He endorses pre-trial diversion programs for first-time offenders, offering them opportunities for education and rehabilitation with the goal of reducing crime and promoting safer communities for all.
Judge McRae held his kickoff fundraiser on June 21 at Coaxum’s Low Country Cuisine in Conyers.
