ATLANTA, GA – Vernon Jones, candidate for Georgia Secretary of State, issued the following statement today(Jan. 28) following reports that the FBI executed a search warrant at the Fulton County Elections Hub and Operation Center in Union City to retrieve physical ballots and records from the 2020 General Election.
“For years, I have said that there is a ‘dead cat’ on the line in Georgia’s elections, and today’s actions by federal authorities confirm that the concerns of millions of Georgians are not just a theory—they are a matter of criminal investigation.
The raid of the Fulton County Elections Office is a seismic moment for our state. The seizure of 2020 ballots, tabulator tapes, and ballot images proves what we have known all along: the current leadership in the Secretary of State’s office has failed to provide the transparency and accountability that Georgia voters demand. While others chose to dismiss legitimate questions as ‘conspiracy,’ I chose to stand with the people.
As your next Secretary of State, I will not wait for federal intervention to secure our elections. My administration will move to hand-marked paper ballots, implement forensic-level audits as standard procedure, and ensure that Fulton County—and every county—is held to the highest standard of the law.
The era of ‘sloppiness’ and ‘procedural violations’ being used as excuses for election mismanagement ends on Day One. We will find the truth, we will secure the vote, and we will restore the soul of our democracy.”
