DEKALB COUNTY– Contractors for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) will close a portion of the existing Whitehall Forest Court SE entrance road to the neighborhood from Bouldercrest Road on Thursday, June 25, weather permitting.
Crews will simultaneously open the new Whitehall Forest Court SE access to the neighborhood, positioned approximately 50 feet north of the old roadway. Weather and on-site conditions permitting, the new Whitehall Forest Court SE is scheduled to be open to traffic at 11 a.m. on June 25. Onsite signage will alert approaching drivers of the change in advance.
The new entrance/exit roadway corrects the road alignment. This activity is related to the I-285 at Bouldercrest Road Interchange Improvement Project in DeKalb County.
The $95 million project will reconstruct the I-285/Bouldercrest Road interchange, replace the existing Bouldercrest Road bridge over I-285, and construct five new bridges and new Collector-Distributor (CD) lanes between Bouldercrest Road and I-675.
The project is designed to reduce the high frequency of vehicular accidents and crashes, better accommodate growing truck traffic volumes and create better traffic flow for current and future travel through the interchange and through the area.
GDOT reminds drivers to exercise caution when traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
