ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA– The Georgia Department of Education has released the 2025-2026 Georgia Milestones assessment results. Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) students showed notable improvement in mathematics across elementary and middle grades, along with increases in Eighth Grade Science, Eighth Grade Social Studies, high school Biology, and high school Algebra Concepts and Connections. Other areas either remained steady or had a slight decrease. Because the 2025-2026 school year marked the first administration of Georgia Milestones English Language Arts (ELA) assessments aligned to the state’s new K-12 English Language Arts Standards, additional test development activities must be completed before ELA scores can be calculated and reported.
“We are seeing increases in more than half of the tested subjects, indicating we are moving in the right direction,” said RCPS Superintendent Stephanie Johnson. “As I begin my tenure as superintendent, I look forward to diving deeper into the data and collaborating with administrators, teachers, and support staff to develop and implement targeted strategies and measures for continuous improvement in all subject areas and across all grade bands.”
“I appreciate the hard work of our faculty and staff to keep focusing on improvement and student success,” said Board Chair Sandra Jackson-Lett. “Over the summer, our district and school leadership teams have poured over the preliminary data to develop improvement plans as we begin this new school year. We are excited to have Dr. Johnson add her years of experience, knowledge and leadership to strengthen our district and improve outcomes in the years ahead.”
The percentage of students achieving the Proficient Learner level or above increased or held steady on 8 of 13 Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments. RCPS scores increased in Math for grades 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and high school Algebra. Eighth Grade Physical Science, Eighth Grade Social Studies, and high school Biology also increased.

About Georgia Milestones
Students take Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments in grades 3-8, and Georgia Milestones End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in identified high school courses. The Georgia Milestones Assessment System meets the federal requirement that states test students in math and ELA in grades 3-8 and once in high school, and in science once per grade band (3-5, 6-9, and 10-12). Georgia Milestones undergoes a rigorous national peer review process to meet federal guidelines and requirements.
Georgia Milestones assesses student learning along four levels of achievement: Beginning Learners, Developing Learners, Proficient Learners, and Distinguished Learners. While Proficient Learners have demonstrated full mastery of the grade-level standards, Developing Learners have demonstrated partial mastery of grade-level standards and are considered in progress toward full proficiency.
