ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA— Due to road conditions caused by the winter weather, all Rockdale County offices and the Rockdale County Courthouse will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22, and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the regular hours. GWINNETT COUNTY, GA—Registrations are under way for the Gwinnett County Purchasing Division’s 17th Annual Supplier Networking Event. The event will be held on Thursday, April 24, at the Gas South Convention Center at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, in Duluth, GA. Potential vendors may drop in between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.  Attendees will meet buyers and contracting officers from the Purchasing Division and other metro Atlanta agencies and take advantage of networking opportunities designed to create relationships. GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– Gwinnett County has established an Opioid Abatement Advisory Committee following settlements from federal lawsuits against several pharmaceutical companies. As a result of these settlements, the state of Georgia has designated Gwinnett County to receive a substantial portion of the funds to support opioid abatement and remediation efforts. The committee will review applications from organizations seeking funding and provide the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners with recommendations on how to allocate funding to maximize their impact on opioid mitigation efforts. ATLANTA – Gov. Brian P. Kemp has declared a statewide State of Emergency, effective immediately, in preparation for the freezing temperatures and winter weather expected to impact Georgia.  The State of Emergency executive order authorizes the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) to activate the State Operations Center (SOC) and mobilize any needed resources to address potential impacts. It also allows for the Georgia Department of Defense to provide up to 250 Georgia National Guard troops, should they be needed for preparation, response, and recovery efforts. ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Due to expected inclement weather, Rockdale County Schools Superintendent Terry Oatts announced that Tuesday, Jan. 21, will be an Independent Learning Day for students and a remote work day for staff.  Buildings will remain closed. All Tuesday extracurricular or school activities will be canceled and/or rescheduled for a later date.  “We will continue to monitor the weather for Wednesday and will send updates as appropriate.
