Due to the current public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,DeKalb Parks has temporarily closed the Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis Center, the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center, and playgrounds and fitness stations. All year-round recreation programming, rentals, group gatherings and organized athletic events have been suspended until further notice. To best protect the safety of patients and employees, Piedmont Newton and Piedmont Rockdale Hospitals are implementing visitor restrictions until further notice. All visitors are restricted except essential family members. The only cases in which visitors will be permitted are for patients receiving end-of-life care, labor and delivery support, and for legal guardians accompanying minors who are receiving care, such as infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). On March 19, a Decatur City Hall employee notified management that they had tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is in an administrative position and typically has limited interactions with the public. Wednesday, March 11 was the last day that the employee was at work, and the employee did not begin experiencing symptoms until after that time. DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management is reminding citizens to keep items like paper towels, sanitizing wipes or “flushable” wipes out of the sewer system. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, stores have been emptied of toilet paper, leading citizens to use paper towels or wipes as alternatives.
