The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Decatur-DeKalb Chapter, Inc. will host a screening of the documentary, “Chocolate Milk,” on Aug. 10, noon to 2 p.m., Emory Decatur Hospital’s Bailey Auditorium, 2701 North Decatur Road, Decatur. “Chocolate Milk” is a documentary that explores the racial divide in breastfeeding, told through the narratives of three african American women: a new mother, a midway and a WIC lactation educator. The film seeks to answer the longstanding question of why more African-American women are not breastfeeding. Enjoy light refreshments, giveaways and door prizes at the free community event.

The Greater Lithonia Chamber of Commerce(GLCC) will host DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson at the guest speaker  at its luncheon on Aug. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at This Is It! A $10,000 reward is being offered for a DeKalb County man who is wanted for shooting a police officer and fatally wounding a woman during a domestic disturbance this morning in the city of Stonecrest. DeKalb County Police said that Otis Walker, 27, is considered armed and dangerous. The deceased woman is his girlfriend, according to police. Her identity has not been released. Police were responding to a domestic call this morning at a home on Hodgon Corners Cove in the Stonecrest area  when they were fired upon by Walker, who was hiding between two homes, Maj.                 Hundreds of people packed out a Lithonia Chevron parking lot for a candlelight vigil on Saturday, July 27, to honor Drevon Corion LeBlanc. The young man passed away on Friday, July 26, while at the barbershop at the intersection of South Deshon and S. Stone Mountain-Lithonia roads. He was 21 years old. LeBlanc’s family and a host of friends attended the prayer vigil, which included a balloon release and candle lighting ceremony. The DeKalb County Board of Health said today that West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes have been trapped at 11 locations throughout the county. The Board of Health is educating the public on how to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and protect against bites. Door-to-door visits are being made in the identified area. To date this year, there have been no human cases of West Nile virus infection confirmed in DeKalb County. The city of Stonecrest is urging the community to support its Red Cross’ blood drive, which will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 1 to 6 p.m., at City Hall. The Red Cross has issued an urgent plea for donors nationwide and the city of Stonecrest responded by partnering to host a blood drive. MARTA has received a $2.6 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation for the purchase of six zero-emission battery electric buses to replace six diesel models. Removing the 2005 diesel versions from the fleet will reduce MARTA’s emissions by 935 short tons of greenhouse gases and reduce energy consumption by 14.3 terajoules. The energy saved by the deployment of the zero-emissions buses is equivalent to nearly 250 years of gas for the average American car driver. More than 30 rising sixth graders attended the Chairman’s Youth Summer Enrichment Program. The weeklong end-of-summer camp, sponsored by Rockdale County Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr., was held at the JP Carr Community Center July 22 -26 in Conyers. The half-day program included 5 days of hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities where students were introduced to animation and video game creation.
